About the position

The School Counselor plays a vital role in helping students develop skills in personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development. The counselor is responsible for establishing the school-counseling program, providing individual and group counseling services, consulting with various stakeholders, coordinating counseling services, interpreting student data, adhering to ethical standards, and participating in professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the school-counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students.
  • Consult with students, parents, teachers, and other community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
  • Coordinate all counseling services for students and assist with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school.
  • Accurately interpret test results and other student data to assist teachers with educational placement.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession and participate in professional associations.
  • Attend professional development trainings for proficiency in the Learning Management System for Online Programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with a Master's degree in counseling or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be licensed by the State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in counseling or able to obtain licensure.
