About The Position

The GIS Manager is responsible for overseeing the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) staff and coordinating GIS activities across various departments within Alachua County. This role involves the development, implementation, and management of GIS programs, ensuring alignment with the County's Comprehensive Plan and Development Regulations. The position requires strong leadership skills, a focus on customer service, and the ability to advocate for organizational culture aligned with core values.

Requirements

• Master's degree in urban planning, geography, geomatics, public administration, architecture, civil engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
• Three years of GIS experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of GIS staff, including determining work procedures and schedules.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide training and orientation to subordinate employees.
• Perform periodic needs assessments to allocate resources for GIS strategic growth.
• Make presentations to department members, administration, and officials regarding policy recommendations.
• Develop procedures and processes to maintain consistency among GIS professionals across departments.
• Provide GIS training to various departments to assist with County-wide GIS informational databases.
• Supervise staff in digital mapping, GIS database management, website development, and cloud server maintenance.
• Coordinate and supervise teams on special projects as required.
• Manage County contracts for GIS services and supervise GIS contractual work with private entities.
• Prepare grant applications for local program funding.
