About the position
The job overview for the Geoscience Data Associate position is that the candidate will be responsible for digitizing information from paper records and building a comprehensive and organized digital archive of Zambian geoscience data. They will work closely with software engineers, data scientists, and geologists to create a high-quality, searchable, and permanent digital record. The candidate will also contribute to the digitization approach, track scanned documents, and ensure the quality and success of the data upload pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with software engineers, data scientists, and geologists to build a high-quality, searchable, permanent digital record of Zambian geoscience data
- Contribute to the approach to digitization and provide feedback to improve operational efficiency
- Scan paper reports, maps, and photographs and input corresponding metadata
- Track which documents have been scanned and maintain a backlog of documents to be scanned
- Confirm the quality of scans and the success of the data upload pipeline
Requirements
- Highly motivated and experienced Geoscience Data Associate
- Familiarity with digitizing information from paper records
- Ability to scan reports, photographs, and large format maps
- Proficient in annotating and adding metadata to scanned files
- Experience in building a comprehensive and organized digital archive of geoscience data
- Strong collaboration skills with software engineers, data scientists, and geologists
- Knowledge of approaches to digitization and ability to provide feedback for operational efficiency
- Proficient in tracking scanned documents and backlog
- Attention to detail in confirming the quality of scans and success of data upload pipeline
