Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required for all levels.
  • Level I: No experience required.
  • Level II: Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
  • Senior Level: Minimum of 4 years of experience required.

  • Comprehensive understanding of gas operating safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with Black Hills construction standards and procedures.
  • Ability to pass PE Fusion certificate.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize projects and equipment needs.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability and understanding of regulators, meters, and pipefitting.
  • Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions during emergencies.
  • Effective customer interaction and resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with steel welding procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general gas distribution system maintenance and operation work.
  • Provide recommendations on proper material type and size to accommodate load requirements and pressure.
  • Ensure accurate location and installation of facilities such as service lines, mains, and meter sets.
  • Proficiently locate underground lines.
  • Classify and repair above and underground leaks.
  • Install gas measurement, pressure regulation, and over pressure protection systems.
  • Install facilities according to specifications, including trench depth/width and proper auguring.
  • Perform hot line tapping of mains and services using correct procedures.
  • Conduct leak repairs on underground facilities using approved methods and materials.
  • Maintain certification and perform plastic fusion of mains and services.
  • Perform pressure testing of facilities to ensure integrity and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect and supervise construction activities of gas contract construction crews.
