About The Position

Heart Havens is seeking a Full Time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work at the Post Oak home in Virginia Beach, VA. This role is dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities, helping them engage with their communities, and supporting them in their daily activities and personal growth. The DSP will work creatively and collaboratively to ensure that individuals lead vibrant and fulfilling lives, while also providing essential support for both everyday tasks and larger community events.

Requirements

• Passion for working with individuals with developmental disabilities and other physical or mental disabilities.
• Knowledge of basic human physical and psychological needs.
• Ability to perform simple nursing care, first-aid, and behavior management.
• Ability to write reports using a professional and objective style.
• Proficiency in using computers and electronic equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and comprehend training manuals.
• Ability to assist and lift individuals as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in care, training, or habilitation of individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Current Medicaid Waiver Competency Certification.

Responsibilities

• Encourage individuals to connect with community resources and events.
• Support individuals in planning and participating in larger events, such as trips.
• Assist with everyday activities, including meal preparation and personal care.
• Write daily progress and behavior reports in a professional manner.
• Interact with individuals, community members, and treatment team members to provide comprehensive support.
• Observe, record, and report on participants' behavior, attitude, and physical condition.
