About The Position

The Ford Performance Vehicle Dynamics Engineer role focuses on leading the development of vehicle dynamics for high-performance on and off-road vehicles. This position requires a blend of analytical skills and hands-on experience to ensure optimal ride, steering, and handling performance. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage testing plans to meet program targets, while also being involved in significant travel for testing purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree.
  • 3+ years of Vehicle Dynamics development experience as platform/attribute lead.
  • 3+ years of performance driving experience including limit handling.
  • 2+ years of vehicle ride/damper tuning experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in data acquisition/analysis (Motec, CANalyser, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving products and needs.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to adapt to requested schedules.
  • Passion for performance vehicles/racing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree.
  • Experience in off-road chassis/shock design and tuning including position sensitive dampers.
  • Knowledge of controls system theory related to semi-active suspension systems, steering, brake controls, or powertrain controls.
  • Experience using Ford diagnostic/tuning tools (CANape, DET, etc.).
  • Extensive personal or professional off-road driving experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead chassis/vehicle dynamics development of Ford Performance off-road vehicles.
  • Support cross-functional teams including Vdyn, NVH, CAE/Simulation, and Chassis Architecture to establish pre-program targets.
  • Responsible for delivery of all on and off-road vehicle dynamics attributes including ride, steering (EPAS), and handling (inc. ABS, ESC, and TSC).
  • Use analytical tools (CAE, Simulator, etc.) to define tuning libraries that deliver program attribute targets.
  • Manage test plans to support tuning freezes and attribute assessments at all major milestones.
  • Manage off-site testing, scheduling objective testing with both internal (VEV) and external vendors (Roush, Cayman Dynamics, Morse Measurement, etc.).
  • Complete and document all DVP and CDR requirements including handling assessments for loaded, unloaded, and trailer tow conditions.
  • Support off-road testing methods and metric development across all Raptor programs.
