About The Position

Under supervision, to respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls for the protection of life and property; to have primary responsibility for the operation, use and routine maintenance of fire vehicles and pumping equipment utilized during firefighting activities; to perform a full range of firefighting duties; as part of a paramedic team, to perform paramedic duties in emergency medical situations; and to perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating knowledge and abilities for the position.
  • Completion of coursework in fire science or a related field.
  • Experience as a Fire Engineer or equivalent to the level of Firefighter.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate the engine and hydraulic controls at a fire incident.
  • Render basic first aid in extreme conditions.
  • Perform the duties of Fire Captain when required.
  • Perform ancillary duties involving the administration of the fire department.
  • Supervise Firefighters and Paramedics in the absence of a Fire Captain.
  • Respond to alarms and drive fire equipment to fires.
  • Operate a pumping engine to boost water pressure.
  • Calculate correct pump pressure using hydraulic theory and mathematics.
  • Clean, wash, and service equipment; inspect equipment and pump motors.
  • Perform a full range of firefighting duties including rescue and lifesaving work.
  • Conduct inspections of public assemblies and buildings for fire safety compliance.
  • Examine storage and handling of flammable liquids and hazardous materials.
  • Assist in the investigation of fires.
  • Respond to public complaints and requests for information.
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment condition and readiness.
  • Administer first aid to victims of accidents and fires.
  • Assume charge of an engine company in the absence of the Fire Captain.
  • Engage in public information activities and maintain inventories.
  • Ensure compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations.
  • Administer appropriate patient care during medical emergencies.

  • Current C-Pat or Biddle certification.

  • Current and valid Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certificate.
  • Current and valid American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
