About The Position

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Fiduciary Tax Manager to join our team! This position will organize and direct the delivery of all First Merchants Private Wealth Advisors (FMPWA) fiduciary tax related matters. Responsible to set direction and ensure decisions are aligned with FMPWA strategic initiatives and growth plans. Build a sustainable foundation upon which FMPWA can ensure fiduciary tax obligations and planning opportunities are met and realized. Recommend and aid in the implementation of technological solutions in conjunction with FMPWA's strategy, including the fiduciary tax return preparation and filing processes, to ensure all tax related obligations required of FMPWA are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, finance, economics, or similar field.
  • Five (5) years of fiduciary tax management, tax preparation, tax systems and/or related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Certified Trust Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support all aspects of fiduciary tax return preparation for FMPWA including Trust and Fiduciary Income tax returns, Exempt organization tax returns, Private foundation tax returns, Estate Fiduciary tax returns, Selected individual tax returns, Federal estate tax returns, 1099R, 5498 & 5500 Information returns (Retirement Accounts), and all other 1099 reporting.
  • Centralize tax work across FMPWA's footprint including access to and provision of sound advice, management of tax preparation engagements with external firms, compliance and execution of tax related obligations, i.e. filings, payments, etc., data accuracy and delivery along with general oversight of all tax matters.
  • Create cohesion among the tax team, Wealth Managers, administrative support, operational functions, and technology solutions.
  • Develop clear policies and procedures in collaboration with Wealth Managers, administrative support, operations, Director of Digital Strategy and Risk and Compliance Manager.
  • Take ownership and ensure all have a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities in relation to processes.
  • Provide tax related expertise as it relates to PWA technology strategy and solutions.
  • Ensure process efficiency by proactive, coordinated engagement among team members and vendors to address issues, questions and provide guidance.
  • Oversee all tax preparation services outsourced to third-party providers.
  • Serve as a member of the internal Tax Committee.
