About The Position

The Federal Work Study Student Assistant position at the Architecture and Fine Arts Library is designed for a customer service-oriented student to support library operations. The role involves assisting patrons at the Service Desk, managing library materials, and providing general assistance to enhance the library experience for users.

Requirements

  • Federal Work Study Award for Spring 2025 semester
  • Ability to work night and weekend shifts
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Good communication skills and customer-service oriented
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and climb flights of stairs

Responsibilities

  • Staffing the Service Desk
  • Searching the UF Library Catalog to determine the location of library materials and their availability for loan
  • Loaning and returning library materials
  • Assisting patrons with Course Reserves, printers, scanners, and workstations in the library
  • Answering basic questions regarding library accounts and policies
  • Answering telephone calls and providing directional assistance
  • Assisting patrons with general questions and referring them to other staff members when needed
  • Organizing and re-shelving circulating library materials
  • Patrolling the library to collect browsed library materials and reporting maintenance or technical equipment issues to the supervisor
  • Assisting the supervisor with collections projects such as re-shelving, dusting, organizing, and shifting sections of the collection

  • Hourly wage of $13/hour
