About the position

We are looking for a qualified facility manager to oversee the daily operations of MSU's Social Data Collection and Analysis Services core facility (Social Data) on the MSU-Bozeman campus. This individual will assist Social Data users (faculty, researchers, staff, external clients, post-docs, students) with research project design, implementation, and presentation of results. In addition, the person in this position will be responsible for supervising and training facility users and staff, managing operating costs, ensuring a balanced budget, and maintaining and troubleshooting software and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise daily work of research assistants and projects for research staff statistician
  • Assist with hiring and training of facility employees
  • Order and maintain all supplies needed for daily operation of the facility
  • Assist the director with strategic planning for facility's future needs, including staffing and capital upgrades
  • Oversee facility's operating budget, fee structure, and invoicing
  • Serve as facility's primary contact for agreements with external users
  • Initiate fiscal, HR processes with RED Service Centers Fiscal Manager
  • Manage outside vendors by obtaining bids, selecting vendors, providing guidance, and setting expectations for deliverables and schedules
  • Supply guidance on research design to clients and prospective clients
  • Construct cost estimates for researchers and other potential clients
  • Ensure timely invoicing and billing of facility users
  • Supply training on relevant research methods to constituents beyond facility clients
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment and technologies

Requirements

  • PhD or master's degree in statistics, computer science, data science, or similar field with 5+ years experience
  • Demonstrated experience in project development, implementation, and statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with hiring, training, and supervision of employees
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting surveys

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing or working in a research core facility
  • Prior statistics or data science teaching experience
  • Extensive experience programming in R statistical software environment
  • Experience in entrepreneurial, business, marketing, and/or customer service environments
