About The Position

The Extension Manager is responsible for integrating new or (refocused) processes and putting it in a form that allows regional production to take it and implement it. This role involves working closely with local production managers and trainers to ensure effective training and communication of processes. The Extension Manager will develop strategies for process integration, identify opportunities for standardization across regions, and create educational and training materials using various multimedia tools. Additionally, the Extension Manager acts as a change agent to drive continuous improvement projects within the organization and coaches management in executing strategic plans. The role also requires adherence to environmental laws and procedures, reporting any environmental issues, and understanding the company's emergency notification process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in Animal Science, Business or related field and 2+ years of experience in a leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Continuous Improvement methods to manage projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement plans.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, innovation, and ability to operate autonomously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with local production managers and trainers to walk through steps and go through message points laid out by director.
  • Develops strategies for integration of processes.
  • Identifies on-farm opportunities connecting across regions for standardization.
  • Uses charts, graphs, animations, and multimedia content to develop and design education and training materials.
  • Acts as a change agent to identify and drive production continuous improvement projects for the organization.
  • Coaches management in tactical execution of strategic plans.
  • Follows all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Foods subscribes.
  • Reports all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Reads and understands the company's emergency notification process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
