About The Position

The position functions independently in a primary care office setting in collaboration with a supervising physician, covering areas such as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Women's Health. The role involves providing longitudinal care, managing diseases over time, and addressing overflow and sick visits. There is a strong emphasis on preventative care, managing stable acute illnesses, health promotion, and preventing illness and injury. Alternatively, the position may also function independently in an on-site occupational or teammate health clinic, focusing on single-visit encounters with an emphasis on illness reprieve and ensuring medication and vaccination compliance. The role includes coordinating staffing and orientation for assigned team members, planning and conducting ongoing education and training, and maintaining infection control and safety standards while promoting patient-centered communication and care.

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
  • Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines with an expiration date greater than 90 days from the date of beginning practice.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • For Nurse Practitioner: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required; License to practice as a Registered Nurse required; Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required (AGPCNP, FNP, PNP-PC, or ANP certification according to population served).
  • For Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred; Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, referral, and follow-up for a shared or owned panel of patients or on a by-visit basis.
  • Manages multiple chronic illnesses and performs minimally invasive procedures.
  • Recommends screenings and tests based on patients' demographics.
  • Manages health care within protocols mutually agreed upon by physician and APP team members.
  • Identifies abnormal findings early and initiates appropriate intervention.
  • Participates on committees and in research as appropriate.
  • Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, referral, and follow-up for patients in onsite or teammate health clinic settings, including virtual visits.
  • Manages acute illnesses or chronic medication administration.
