About The Position

The Exceptional Children's Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the compliance and instructional support for special education programs within Hoke County Schools. This role involves managing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, ensuring adherence to IDEA policies, and providing professional development for staff. The coordinator acts as a liaison between parents, teachers, and administrators to enhance the educational experience for exceptional children.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years teaching Special Education experience.
• Experience with writing IEPs and maintaining required exceptional education paperwork.
• Demonstration of leadership roles.
• Command of IDEA policies and procedures at the federal and state level, including due process procedures.

• Basic accounting knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manage compliance of all aspects of the special education process as defined by IDEA.
• Conduct IEP meetings in accordance with North Carolina Policies Governing Services for Students with Disabilities.
• Manage EC records, including facilitation of audits and follow-up corrections.
• Coordinate with staff to monitor timelines of all processes, including development and review of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Notify school psychologists of all pending evaluations.
• Serve as the LEA representative as designated by the building administrator.
• Maintain current knowledge and implementation of ECATS.
• Compare and rectify ECATS and student information management system data reports.
• Submit accurate Periodic Child Count reports.
• Manage the initial referral process of students.
• Provide school-based Professional Development through modules provided.
• Review, monitor, and coach the writing of compliant IEPs.
• Manage end-of-year transition meetings and transfer compliant files to other buildings upon student transfer or at year end.
• Assist with scheduling and support teachers with classroom management and behavioral strategies.
• Assist with data collection and notify Principal, Director, and Program Specialist of student concerns as needed.
• Monitor the implementation of the IEP through informal observations and feedback.
• Assist teachers in obtaining needed instructional materials.
• Attend all required professional development activities supported by the district.
• Facilitate EC teacher/TA PLC with a focus on data and problem solving.
• Notify building administrator of parent concerns and collaborate with building administrators to resolve them.
• Participate in District EC Facilitator meetings and provide follow-up communication at weekly EC PLC to school staff and administrators.
• Maintain a spreadsheet of EC data and review it weekly at EC PLC.
