About The Position

The Engineering Project Team Lead at Trane Technologies is responsible for overseeing the design and development of chillers and heat pumps for the North American product portfolio. This role involves collaborating with a cross-functional team to create innovative designs aimed at reducing energy intensity and decarbonizing heating applications. The position requires guiding the team through a structured development process, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, and delivering technical progress reports to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • At least 7 years of work experience in product design/development or project management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a lead engineer ensuring due diligence in the design process through coaching and mentoring.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes to mentor the design team.
  • Experience using PLM and CAD systems, preferably Creo.
  • Schedule development and resource planning experience.
  • Design or application experience with commercial building HVAC products.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and release of chiller and heat pump equipment designs from concept generation through the release of design deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, sales, and customers to interpret unmet needs into viable technical solutions.
  • Develop requirements and track compliance with cost, quality, and delivery standards in collaboration with various teams.
  • Ensure proper engineering specifications are applied for the selection and qualification of components.
  • Lead design reviews for components, sub-systems, and overall systems.
  • Create and modify DFMEA and DVP&R to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturing and assembly principles into product design in partnership with manufacturing teams.
  • Deliver technical progress reports to the leadership team.
  • Travel domestically 5-10% to interact with colleagues on chiller and heat pump products.
