About the position

As the Engineering Manager of the Trust Platform team at Airbnb, you will lead a team responsible for detecting and mitigating fraud at scale across the platform. You will work on foundational systems and collaborate with Trust defense teams to tackle fraud attacks. Additionally, you will play a strategic role in building user-facing tools, defining the roadmap, and working with cross-functional stakeholders. Your expertise should include engineering management experience, familiarity with backend technologies, and experience in the Trust and Risk domain.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of software engineers responsible for detecting and mitigating fraud at scale
Design and build large scale systems to detect and mitigate fraud across the entire platform
Collaborate with product, data science, and operations teams to understand evolving attack vectors and make Airbnb a safe and trusted community
Build user-facing tools to enable non-engineers to deploy defenses and operationalize policies
Define the roadmap and long-term vision to support changing business needs
Work with cross-functional stakeholders to support operational workflows through the rule and policy engine
Lead the organizational and technical direction of the infrastructure for fraud detection and mitigation
Attract top talent, mentor individuals, and manage conflict within the team
Nurture a culture of technical quality from design to production
Collaborate with internal teams to develop and communicate a clear vision and priorities for the team
Plan, track, and report on the work of the team, identifying problems early
Make technical decisions and own the technical direction for the team
Have expertise in engineering management and software development in a fast-paced tech environment
Familiarity with backend technologies such as Java and Scala
Experience in the Trust and Risk domain
Knowledge of platform architecture patterns and best practices
Experience in building and leading infrastructure is a plus
Retained, mentored, and hired senior engineers and leaders
Worked with senior leadership to set strategic direction
Effective in creating alignment within the team and across the organization.

Requirements

10+ years of combined engineering management experience and relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment
Familiarity with the latest backend technologies, such as Java (familiarity with Scala is a plus)
Experience with the Trust and Risk domain
Experience with platform architecture patterns and best practices
Experience with building and leading infrastructure is a plus
Retained, mentored, and hired senior engineers and leaders with a track record of building productive, world-class engineering teams
Experience with effectively creating alignment and setting strategic 6+ month direction
