About the position

As an engineering manager on the Devtools team at Airbnb, you will play a crucial role in shaping the vision and technical strategy for our developer environment. Your responsibilities will include delivering industry-leading solutions that scale with the needs of our engineering teams, engaging with senior technical leaders across the company, and motivating engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems. With a focus on improving productivity and moving development to the cloud, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on Airbnb's developer infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Shape the vision, technical strategy, and roadmap for Devtools
Deliver industry-leading solutions that scale with the needs of engineering teams
Engage with and influence senior technical leaders across the company
Inspire change and motivate engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems
Deliver software products that delight customers and accelerate business growth
Own and defend technical decisions and direction for the team
Partner with tech leads to drive incident resolution
Empower the team to achieve productivity, reliability, and simplicity
Hire and retain a team of high-performing engineers
Manage and mentor a team of engineers and be the guardian of architecture
Stay current on leading industry trends
Have 3+ years of engineering management experience and 9+ years of relevant software development industry experience
Have a BS, MS, or PhD in CS or related field
Provide technical leadership and set technical direction and strategy
Possess strong communication and collaboration skills
Retain, mentor, and hire senior engineers
Work effectively with senior leadership in setting strategic direction
Create alignments with multiple teams and operate well in ambiguity
Partner with recruiting to build incredible engineering teams
Coach and mentor team members in their careers
Be actively involved in setting product strategy
Make culture choices that positively impact engineering
Ship several large-scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams
Be passionate about efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system quality.

Requirements

3+ years of engineering management experience, with 9+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment
BS, MS or PhD in CS or related field
Technical leadership: hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and strategy
Strong communication and collaboration skills. Examples of working across teams and organizations on technical initiatives.
Retained, mentored and hired senior engineers
Effectively worked with senior leadership in setting strategic 6+ month direction.
Experience with effectively creating alignments with multiple teams and operating well in ambiguity
Track record in partnering with recruiting to build incredible engineering teams
Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers
Been actively involved in setting product strategy
Made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering
Shipped several large scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams
Passionate about efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system quality.
