About The Position

The Engineering Drafter position is a contract-to-hire role focused on performing drafting and engineering support duties. The role involves developing competence through structured work assignments under the guidance of supervisors and experienced colleagues. The drafter will utilize AutoCAD to prepare detailed engineering drawings and assist in various technical tasks, including field observations and data entry.

Requirements

• One or more years of experience interpreting technical drawings/documents and performing technical analysis or drafting using CAD software.
• A degree in computer-aided design or relevant field may substitute for certain years of experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and computer-aided drafting principles, standards, and techniques.
• Basic skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints.
• Skill in analyzing and solving problems and in verbal and written communication.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with electronic document management systems (EDMS).
• Familiarity with work management systems.
• Basic skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets).

Responsibilities

• Performs field observations.
• Prepares and updates as-built drawings based on field edits.
• Reads and interprets engineering drawings, construction drawings, and other technical information.
• Prepares detailed engineering drawings, maps, and graphs using computer-aided design software.
• Indicates revisions clearly and files drawings according to standard procedures.
• Assists in drafting solicitation documents to support procurement and contract activities.
• Conducts field and office research related to measurements and technical records.
• Prepares basic specifications and materials lists.
• Assists in setting up work orders and requisition entries.
• Performs data entry in the departmental engineering database.
• Prepares basic reports related to projects and assists with more complex reports.
• Operates equipment such as plotters, printers, copiers, and scanners.
