About The Position

The Elevator Inspector I position is a full-time role within the State of Hawaii's Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, specifically in the Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division. The inspector will receive training in safety laws, codes, and regulations related to elevator inspection and accident investigation. As the inspector gains competence, they will perform progressively responsible inspection activities under the guidance of a higher-level inspector.

Requirements

  • Mechanic experience in the elevator industry.
  • Knowledge of English and basic mathematics.
  • Basic electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles as applied to elevators.
  • Ability to read and interpret laws, rules, policies, and technical drawings.
  • Experience as an elevator mechanic or equivalent education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a four-year apprenticeship program in elevator mechanics.
  • Completion of college coursework in mechanical or electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Receive training in safety laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertinent to elevator inspection.
  • Accompany a higher-level inspector on inspections and receive training in various inspection activities.
  • Perform safety inspections and testing procedures for elevators and related equipment.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents involving elevators and related equipment as competence is gained.
