About The Position

The Electrical Staff Engineer position at Floresville Electric Light & Power System is designed to support the FELPS team and the Chief Executive Officer by preparing plans, specifications, contracts, and cost estimates for electrical engineering projects. The role involves evaluating bids, administering consultant work, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Additionally, the engineer will engage with community stakeholders and lead change management initiatives related to technological advancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably a BSEE with a Power emphasis.
• Two to five years of experience in the electrical distribution utility industry, including supervisory and management roles.
• Strong communication skills for policy development and implementation.
• Ability to work independently with advanced skills in design and implementation of major programs.
• Experience in distribution and substation design, with transmission and communications design experience as a plus.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of substation operations and design standards.
• Experience with community engagement and public presentations.

Responsibilities

• Assist daily operations by collaborating with the FELPS Operations group and overseeing the Dispatch and Advanced Metering Infrastructure Department.
• Manage system improvements and reliability, including reviewing construction jobs and attending relevant training courses.
• Coordinate financial management with the Chief Financial Officer, monitoring expenditures and making recommendations to the CEO.
• Direct external relations by providing community support, communicating with neighboring utilities, and serving on industry boards and committees.
• Review substation events and customer complaints, providing technical advice on distribution power supply.
