About The Position

The Education Program Coordinator at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum and East Sioux Falls Historic Site is responsible for developing, coordinating, and marketing educational programs for both adults and children. This part-time role involves engaging with the community, managing volunteers, and ensuring the effective delivery of programs that promote natural sciences and horticulture.

Requirements

• Experience working with children
• Supervising experience
• Ability to communicate effectively both interpersonally and in writing
• Organizational and problem-solving skills
• Basic understanding of natural sciences and horticulture
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Experience with social media campaigns

Responsibilities

• Implement educational programs for a variety of age groups
• Develop and foster relationships with teachers for existing and potential classes
• Work with Arboretum staff to recruit and retain volunteers for field trip chaperones and summer camp assistants
• Develop and execute a consistent Social Media marketing campaign
• Provide ongoing updates to the MJWA website to remain relevant
• Create an informative and engaging newsletter bi-yearly
• Work with Education Committee to create meeting agendas and reports
• Track attendance and financial data for reporting to the City of Sioux Falls
• Maintain engagement in community outreach programs for the promotions of MJWA programs and classes
• Handle public inquiries related to programs and activities
• Handle scheduling and registration of programs and classes
• Purchase supplies as needed for programs and classes according to budget guidelines
• Ensure proper collection of revenues generated by programs and classes
• Work alongside the Executive Director in hiring a seasonal intern
• Supervise intern during term of employment
• Develop field trip and summer camp program according to the agreement with the City of Sioux Falls
