About the position
Arzeda, located in Seattle, Washington, is seeking an experienced Downstream Processing Engineer II to join their growing team. The role involves developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for enzyme and bioconversion systems, scaling up processes from lab to commercial scale, and providing technical guidance in designing and implementing experiments. The engineer will also be responsible for developing tech transfer documentation, providing technical support for development and production trials, and implementing safety procedures. A BS degree in chemical, biochemical, manufacturing, or food engineering is required, along with five years of industry experience. The ability to travel 20% of the time is also necessary.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for enzyme and bioconversion systems.
- Scale up processes from lab to pilot to commercial scale.
- Provide technical guidance in designing, planning, and implementing experiments.
- Experience with downstream recovery of material; specifically, solid recovery, crystallization, evaporation, centrifugation, etc.
- Develop tech transfer documentation including process flow diagrams, material balances, cost analysis.
- Provide technical support for development and production trials at CMOs, partners.
- Develop and implement safety procedures and foster safe lab practice.
Requirements
- BS degree in chemical, biochemical, manufacturing, food engineering or similar.
- Five years of industry experience in biochemical/chemical research and development, pilot plant, or manufacturing environments.
- Two to three years of experience providing technical mentorship to junior scientists/engineers.
- Two to three years of experience with equipment implementation (sourcing, purchasing, installation).
- Ability to travel 20% of the time to support development and production trials.
- Nice-to-haves (but not required):
- MS degree in chemical, biochemical, manufacturing, food engineering or similar.
- Six to ten years of industry experience in biochemical/chemical research and development, pilot plant, or manufacturing environments.
- Experience with industrial equipment implementation in a pilot plant or manufacturing setting.
