About The Position

The Distribution Engineer is responsible for providing cost-effective engineering solutions for upgrading, expanding, maintaining, and automating power distribution systems for utility clients. This role involves ensuring compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements while collaborating with other engineering teams on various projects. The position requires performing engineering calculations and may involve field investigations at project locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred or working towards earning EIT.
  • GPA above 3.0 preferred.
  • Technical decision-making, good interpersonal skills, organization skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Develop basic technical specifications, calculations, and design deliverables per project, client, and code requirements under supervision.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Distribution planning work experience preferred.
  • Experience with distribution make-ready design for 3rd party attachments is a plus.
  • Software Automation and Scripting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system expansion and improvement projects, system protection and coordination, reactive compensation, voltage analyses, distributed generation and renewable interconnections, power quality studies and system contingency scenarios.
  • Accurately develop and maintain complex computer models of the electric delivery system used to simulate operations.
  • Perform power flow studies using CYME or equivalent software, including creating and maintaining underlying databases.
  • Prepare cost-effective system expansion plans using good engineering practices.
  • Effectively communicate detailed documentation and plans of complex designs with other work groups.
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining work product quality, consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Incorporate employee and public safety as a priority into the design and operation of all projects.
  • Develop new processes and tools for analyzing the electric system and large data sets of historical operating conditions.
  • Apply analysis to identify the best solution to technical problems and communicate actions consistent with legal and corporate requirements.
  • Work under the direction of experienced engineers.
