About The Position

The Director, Portfolio Manager of the Advisor Services Portfolio is responsible for supporting Schwab's business goals through the delivery of technology projects within the Advisor Services Portfolio. This role involves managing the overall health of the portfolio, collaborating across the organization to ensure efficient project execution, and advancing the portfolio's strategy by managing risks and ensuring effective delivery of solutions to business problems. The Director will lead project teams, facilitate discussions on portfolio management, and ensure adherence to established standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 12+ years as a program/project leader managing multiple large, sophisticated, and cross-functional projects.
  • Extensive program/project management experience.
  • Managed over $15+ million per year in program/project work.
  • Recent experience as a direct people manager of more than 6 resources.
  • Experience managing senior level team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior business and technology leaders.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and strong business and technology acumen.
  • Ability to manage multiple large, complex, and cross-functional technology projects in complex matrixed environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years in financial services with extensive business and technology experience.
  • Experience in working in the Advisor custodial business.
  • Experience in scaled agile practices (SAFe).
  • Prior experience in a company's transformation into scaled agile.
  • Experience in use of MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Rally, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise leadership and execution over the Schwab Advisor Services Portfolio.
  • Act as a thought partner to project sponsors and partners; collaborate to identify unarticulated needs and improve business benefits.
  • Represent stakeholder and executive viewpoints.
  • Partner with Portfolio Stakeholders to develop a common understanding of business strategy, product roadmaps, technology teams' capacity, and Agile practices.
  • Effectively interpret project resource needs and adjust as required to ensure business outcomes.
  • Develop effective risk mitigation plans and seamlessly execute; adjust risk management approach as new risks arise.
  • Drive to complete portfolio planning and manage the portfolio intake process for new work to be executed/delivered.
  • Provide supervision and direction to project teams to ensure successful execution.
  • Ensure quality and evidence of project documentation.
  • Oversee the management of projects and initiatives to ensure delivery of lean business case outcomes, and adherence to established PPM standards and best practices.
  • Manage 3rd party portfolio spend to ensure maximum value for the portfolio.
  • Create complete cost transparency across all labor and non-labor costs.
  • Facilitate discussion on appropriate levels of run vs grow, product lifecycle, and software spend in the portfolio.
  • Provide transparency on forecast demand and actuals for all grow work in the portfolio.
  • Manage and communicate portfolio changes; facilitate trade-off decisions in the portfolio.
  • Ensure project teams are managing change to best deliver business value.
  • Manage staff performance by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and developing improvement plans as needed.
  • Organize teams in value streams/agile release trains (ARTs); manage strategic demand in the portfolio Kanban.

Benefits

  • Base compensation range of $123,000 - $246,800, with eligibility for bonus or other incentive opportunities.
