About The Position

The Director of Finance and Business Operations at Washington Vocational Services is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing the organization's financial management, accounting, and operational functions. This position works closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure the financial health of the agency, manage investment strategies, and support the mission through strategic financial planning and fund development. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in finance, accounting, and operational management within a non-profit context, while also fostering a collaborative and positive organizational culture.

Requirements

  • Active CPA preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting required.
  • Experience with diverse grant fund accounting required.
  • 3 - 5 years of proven success in leadership and management required.
  • Experience with organizational budgets and forecasting required.
  • Experience in working with auditors required.
  • Experience with fund development required.
  • Systems acumen with accounting systems software, including Quickbooks.
  • Senior leadership of Finance experience in the non-profit sector strongly preferred.
  • Must pass new hire and periodic background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to advance the organization's mission and support strategic goals.
  • Direct fiscal policies, prepare the annual budget, generate financial reports, and forecast financial performance.
  • Oversee general accounting, auditing, grant compliance, purchasing, and budgetary controls.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and prepare financial reports for the Board and Audit/Finance Committee.
  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash flow, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director, Senior Management, and Board.
  • Direct fund development, including fundraising and securing grants to strengthen the organization's financial position.
  • Oversee Facilities, IT, and Administrative Operations, managing property and facilities to optimize usage.
  • Supervise and train staff in Finance and Business Operations, managing staffing and scheduling.
  • Update and maintain the agency's Fiscal Administration Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Support the Board's Audit/Finance Committee and keep them informed about major financial and control issues.
  • Promote the organization's culture and core values, exhibiting strong leadership and collaboration.
