About The Position

The Director of Water Operations & Treatment Support Services is responsible for the operation and maintenance of JEA water treatment processes, including H2.O Purification Facilities and district energy systems. This role involves coordinating with various JEA areas that provide system monitoring and control support to Water/Wastewater/Reuse Production processes, ensuring product quality, availability, and reliability. The director will manage contracts and programs related to operational engineering, maintenance planning, odor control, and major equipment repair for JEA water, wastewater, and reuse facilities. The position requires compliance with environmental regulations and involves analyzing treatment processes to provide technical recommendations for continuous improvement. The director will oversee the system operation and reliability of JEA’s water and wastewater infrastructure, develop operational plans, and participate in strategic corporate planning. Additionally, the role includes managing staff performance, budget administration, and ensuring safety and wellness goals are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in operations and/or maintenance processes of an electric, water, or wastewater utility.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and district energy systems.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Experience with asset management and maintenance best practices.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience in water and/or wastewater operations.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of H2.O Purification Facilities and district energy systems.

  • Maintain control systems for wastewater collection and water distribution.
  • Manage contracts and programs related to operational engineering and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Monitor and oversee the reliability of JEA’s water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Develop operational plans to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Train, coach, and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Provide oversight for operational and maintenance processes.
  • Stay updated on local, state, federal, and global events.
  • Administer operating and capital budgets.
