About The Position

The New York Public Library's Communications & Marketing Department is seeking a Digital Content Editor to manage and create content for the Library's digital platforms. This role is essential in promoting the Library's mission and strategic priorities while ensuring consistent messaging and branding across various channels. The Digital Content Editor will work closely with the Digital Communications Strategy team to develop engaging content that attracts and engages diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, literature, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years experience writing and editing web copy.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Experience using web content management systems (Drupal experience a plus).
  • Basic familiarity with HTML a plus.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Impeccable organizational skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Solid creative instincts paired with a practical and flexible mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple projects.
  • Timeliness and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Working with house style guides and/or The Chicago Manual of Style.

Nice To Haves

  • Image resizing/editing skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Write, copy, edit, and proofread text for multiple audiences and various uses, infusing with relevant multimedia as appropriate.
  • Write, update, edit, and proofread content for the Library's website, including landing pages, program pages, and promotional pages.
  • Synthesize programs, ideas, and concepts from diverse sources into clear informational text that can be easily translated into multiple languages.
  • Work with photographers and graphic designers to select compelling visuals for webpages; resize and upload images.
  • Ensure voice and message consistency throughout the website; adhere to the Library's Writing Style Guide.
  • Use web metrics to optimize text and images.
  • Coordinate and prioritize incoming requests from colleagues across the Library.
  • Serve as a resource for distributed web content creators; create or update resources as needed (e.g., Writing Style Guide, Event Listing Guide).
  • Upload and maintain content in NYPL's content management system.
  • Upload and maintain multimedia and metadata in NYPL's asset management system.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies that serve NYPL's mission and augment its position as a world-class institution.
  • Support the Content Strategist and other Digital Communications team members as needed.
