About the position
This position is for a DevOps Engineer on the Email Platform team at Twilio. The role involves supporting the management of data center infrastructure across the US and EU, as well as AWS cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to a hybrid strategy that optimizes on-premise data center infrastructure while leveraging operational efficiencies in AWS. Responsibilities include building automation, driving efficiencies, and fostering an inclusive environment. Proficiency in programming languages, experience with public clouds and automation, and a passion for automation and DevOps are required qualifications. The role is based remotely in Spain.
Responsibilities
- Build automation to support data center management, hardware lifecycle, server provisioning, and configuration management.
- Lead the cloud migration strategy while maintaining a resilient on-premise platform.
- Drive efficiencies in both cloud and on-prem footprints through a data-driven approach to design decisions.
- Author and review design documents, runbooks, and other service documentation.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for the team.
- Foster an inclusive environment and support team members' success and growth.
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages: Ruby and Go preferred.
- Experience with running one or more public clouds at scale, using automation for deployment, scaling, monitoring, and management.
- Familiarity with Linux, bash scripting, service configuration, and management.
- Comfortable with supporting and configuring physical hardware and virtual machine environments.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and internet application fundamentals.
- Passion for automation and DevOps.
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals and experience developing distributed systems.
- Ability to work across teams to address complex engineering challenges.
- Experience running large-scale critical production infrastructure.
- Experience automating management of physical infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Experience with load balancing configuration and administration.
- Familiarity and practical experience deploying applications to Kubernetes.
- Past development projects involving structured APIs.
- Remote work location in Spain.
Requirements
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages: Ruby and Go preferred.
- Experience with running one or more public clouds at scale (AWS preferred), using automation to support deployment, scaling, monitoring, and management (Terraform / Pulumi etc.).
- Deep familiarity with Linux (CentOS/RHEL or Ubuntu preferred), bash scripting, service configuration and management.
- Comfortable with supporting and configuring physical hardware (servers, switches, power distribution, etc.) and virtual machine environments.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and internet application fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, SSL, load balancing, etc).
- A passion for automation and DevOps – blending operational excellence with development best practices.
- An understanding of computer science fundamentals and practical experience developing distributed systems.
- Proven ability to work across teams to address complex engineering challenges.
- Experience running large-scale critical production infrastructure supporting 24/7 business needs (desired).
- Experience automating management of physical infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment (desired).
- Experience with configuring and administering load balancing (desired).
- Familiarity and practical experience deploying applications to Kubernetes (desired).
- Past development projects involving interacting with, or creating, structured APIs (desired).
