About the position

Deputy of Human Resources is Responsible for all aspects of capacity building, recognition, retention, mentoring, and DEI initiatives. Additionally, the individual in this role will assist in key areas such as employee relations, training, performance management, compensation, EEO/Diversity and HRIS. Assists the Chief Human Resources Officer on the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures and the overall management of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Leads major human resources program initiatives including pay for performance, recruitment, employee retention, HRIS and employee relations.
  • Specializes in managing the relationship between employees and the organization.
  • Work in partnership with the Human Resources Chief Operation Officer as an advisor on employee relations issues, legal trends and all matters related to the efficient use of human resources personnel.
  • Works closely on strategy and development in the human resource department.
  • Assists in the development, strategy, and implementation of rules, policies, procedures, and programs necessary to the operation of the agency.
  • Deep understanding of organizational development, talent management, and workforce planning to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Participate on a variety of committees, as necessary.
  • Gather input from appropriate field personnel and staff.
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching to agency staff.
  • Encourage and motivate agency staff through HR initiatives with transparent communication strategy.
  • Advises administrative personnel, and supervisors regarding the proper application of federal and state laws, rules, and policies related to specific employee situations.
  • Develop and implement the Mentorship program for new hires program wide.
  • Encourage professional development through coaching and developing staff with ongoing capacity building strategy.
  • Create and implement a coaching strategy for managers and other team members on an as needed basis.
  • Develop and Implement an ongoing strategic plan to conduct agency wide training programs that enables the workforce to make improvements and prioritize organizational concerns.
  • Conduct presentations and training.
  • Attends meetings and training as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in capturing metrics and producing various employment reports.
  • Strategic thinker capable of understanding the big picture and developing long term HR goals and strategy.
  • Dedication and commitment to change management, continuous improvement, and high level performance.
  • Ability to use data and statistics to bring resolution to real work HR problems.
  • Innovative mindset to develop new ways of working across a diverse pool to optimize work and performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be task and detail oriented and diligent in overseeing and managing tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree or at least 7 years of HR experience, with a minimum of 2 years in management and experience in employee relations.
  • SHRM Certification preferred.
