About The Position

The Correctional Lieutenant position at the Snake River Correctional Institution is a permanent role that includes job rotation opportunities. The role involves overseeing the training and evaluation of subordinate staff, managing personnel issues, and ensuring the safety and security of the institution. The lieutenant will also be responsible for making critical decisions regarding inmate management and responding to emergencies, all while promoting a culture of safety and accountability within the correctional facility.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in a correctional-security setting with primary duties in the care and custody of inmates.
• One year of experience at the level of a Sergeant in a correctional system.
• Ability to obtain an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate within one year.

• Possess a valid Oregon DPSST Advanced Correctional Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assign, monitor, evaluate, and assess training needs of subordinate staff.
• Participate in the screening process of new hires and conduct background checks.
• Conduct orientation for new hires and resolve personnel issues and complaints.
• Review and investigate reports of security, safety, and sanitation infractions.
• Supervise and inspect various units within the institution, including dining rooms and infirmaries.
• Serve as commander in emergency situations, deploying staff and securing evidence as necessary.
