About The Position

Crowder is seeking a Co-Op/Intern to assist and learn from project management and estimating teams with daily tasks related to building and estimating projects. The Co-Op assignments will involve three work rotations alternating with school semester attendance, with each rotation taking place at a different job site in the Southeast region of the United States. This position is designed for individuals who are looking for a career in the construction industry, not just a job, and who are committed to making a positive difference for clients, communities, and employees.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to pass a drug test.
  • Legally eligible to work in the US.
  • Completed or currently pursuing a 4-year civil engineering degree from an accredited university with a 2.5 GPA or higher preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with the project team.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and complete assignments accurately with decreased supervisor oversight through 3 rotations.
  • Display initiative and a desire to learn.
  • Set high personal standards and strive for excellence in quality of work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of past interest in construction through previous jobs, activities, and/or volunteering.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Valid, non-restrictive driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project management and estimating teams with daily tasks.
  • Learn the Construction Specifications Institute Master Format and its relation to the construction industry.
  • Read and interpret project specifications, contract requirements, and bid preparations.
  • Perform subcontractor soliciting and quantity take-offs.
  • Learn and utilize Quest estimating software.
  • Analyze labor costs for specific tasks.
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor proposals and participate in bid reviews.
  • Maintain project files, current drawings, as-built records, and production records.
  • Estimate material needs for purchasing and write purchase orders.
  • Expedite material deliveries and manage inventory control.
  • Assist with the invoice approval process and learn jobsite safety aspects.
  • Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and major vendors.
  • Understand budgets and cost tracking, negotiate prices and services, and manage subcontractors.
  • Review and prepare submittal documents and O&M manuals.
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, owners, engineers, and internal staff.
  • Assist with analyzing, procuring, and tracking construction equipment and project schedules.
