About the position
Scorpion Therapeutics is seeking an experienced hands-on Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate should have a background in accounting or business administration, with at least 10 years of experience in a pharma or biotech company. They will be responsible for overseeing the finance and accounting functions of the rapidly growing company, including recording transactions, preparing financial statements, managing audits, and providing accounting guidance. The Controller will also be involved in equity management, risk management, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
Responsibilities
- Record transactions and post them to various accounts.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Design and manage the monthly closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Design, implement, and maintain a system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial statements.
- Plan and manage quarterly and yearly audit/tax processes, including serving as the principal contact with independent accountants.
- Responsible for the capitalization table and equity management.
- Provide accounting guidance with respect to business decisions, such as lease accounting and revenue recognition.
- Assist with the design of standard operating procedures and SOX processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of the company's tax filings for Federal, State, and Payroll tax obligations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a pharma or biotech company
- Preference for candidates with Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations
