About The Position

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Control Center Maintenance Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks. The position is based in Somerville, MA.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting PTC (Positive Train Control) systems.
  • Knowledge of Back Office, Wayside, and Onboard PTC systems.
  • Ability to analyze data to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Experience with configuring system parameters, programming wayside transponders, and configuring communication system elements.
  • Familiarity with MicroLok firmware and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with implementing software upgrades.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams.
  • Effective communication skills for responding to requests from MBTA and subcontractors via email and phone.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for resolving technical issues.
  • Ability to provide on-call support and assist with field equipment problems.
  • Ability to follow approved work plans and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to perform a variety of PTC-related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to adapt to changes and updates in the field and lab activities.
  • Understanding of PTC systems and related field equipment.
  • Familiarity with the transportation industry, particularly rail systems, would be beneficial.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical experience in working with PTC systems or similar technology might be required or highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with field and lab activities, including updates, changes, and testing, by following approved work plans and procedures.
  • Provide support for monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, optimizing, and repairing all aspects of the Back Office, Wayside, and Onboard PTC systems.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to monitor and manage activities that lead to the successful implementation of engineering changes.
  • Analyze data from PTC systems to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Respond to requests from MBTA and subcontractors received via email and phone.
  • If no solution is found, escalate the issue to Level II and project management.
  • Perform all other PTC-related duties as assigned.
