About The Position

The CNC Shop Manager will oversee the quoting process in a machine shop environment, focusing on estimating costs for parts. This role requires a blend of CNC machining expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively. The position is crucial for ensuring accurate and competitive quotes for aerospace products, contributing to the overall success of the shop.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Deep understanding of 3-axis and 4-axis horizontal CNC milling.
  • Ability to produce accurate and competitive quotes for aerospace products.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with Mastercam software.
  • At least 3 years of precision machining or manufacturing engineering experience of medium to highly complex components.
  • Solid understanding of the types of tooling required for specific applications and generalized machine shop procedures.
  • Complete understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and strong background in interpreting part blueprints and customer/industry specifications.
  • Expertise in quoting parts for sectors including 3-axis, 4-axis, materials, and outside processes.
  • Strong analytical and math skills for interpreting and analyzing numerical data.

Nice To Haves

  • ITAR Requirement: Must be a U.S. person.
  • Experience with CNC Programming (Mastercam).
  • Proficiency in Estimating/Planning.
  • Familiarity with 3-4 axis mill and lathe operations.
  • Expertise in interpreting blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze project documents, blueprints, and plans to understand scope and requirements.
  • Prepare detailed material and cost estimates for quoting purposes.
  • Create accurate cost estimates for labor, material, outside processing, and production lead-time based on customer-supplied part blueprints and specifications.
  • Monitor status of submitted quotes and follow up where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors.
  • Manage bids from vendors and contractors.
  • Use bid data to prepare detailed and accurate quotes.
  • Perform cost analyses of completed jobs and maintain master quote records.
  • Source and obtain pricing for materials, plating, hardware, and other job requirements.
  • Present prepared estimates to company leaders.
