About the position

The position involves developing, planning, implementing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Department and Acute Care. The individual will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations on all nursing units at Freeman Fort Scott. This includes developing, implementing, and evaluating projects and initiatives focused on improving clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. The role requires collaboration with coworkers and other management team members to foster an effective clinical climate, working jointly with administration, physicians, and staff to develop the nursing department's mission, vision, values, goals, long-range plans, services, and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a Charge or Staff Nurse if needed to help staff any of the nursing units.
  • Integrates and coordinates departmental services with other functional areas of the system to facilitate achievement of the department and organizational goals.
  • Participates with administration, the medical staff, and other members of the management team in decision-making structures and processes for the department and hospital.
  • Hires and/or terminates, supervises, develops, mentors, and completes performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory, licensure, and accreditation standards for assigned units.
  • Establishes and implements mechanisms to ensure effective orientation, training, and competency of departmental staff.
  • Establishes and implements mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, and improve customer service of the department.
  • Designs, implements, and administers departmental patient care systems that are cost-effective, enhance revenue potential, meet customer needs, and have a positive impact on the market position and financial objectives of the organization.
  • Establishes and implements mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality and safety of clinical services within the department.

Requirements

  • Current Kansas RN License
  • AHA ACLS within 30 days
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days
  • AHA PALS Provider within 180 days
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification within 60 days
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program (CPI) within 90 days
  • RN Competency Day annually by transcript due date
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 120 days
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Emergency nursing
