About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking Civil/Structural Engineers to join their Power & Industrial Solutions Northeast Team in Binghamton, NY. The role involves working independently on complex design projects, supporting or leading substation engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The position emphasizes collaboration within a multi-discipline team to deliver efficient civil/structural design packages for medium and high voltage substations, while also providing mentorship to developing engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience for Senior positions or 5 years for Intermediate positions.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
  • Prior utility or utility consulting experience.
  • Strong client focus and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC regulations.
  • Ability to perform independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other structural design software.

  • Experience with multi-discipline project teams.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support or lead substation engineering project teams in civil/foundation and structural calculations, plans, and details.
  • Develop and review civil/structural design packages for medium and high voltage substations.
  • Lead civil/structural design for site development, foundations, equipment support structures, and ancillary structures.
  • Perform design studies/calculations and demonstrate knowledge of physical substation design.
  • Coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
  • Assist in site visits, estimating, and attending project meetings.
  • Provide design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepare specifications for materials, equipment, and construction work.
  • Review internal and external designs for code compliance and constructability.
  • Provide construction support including resolving site queries and performing site inspections.
  • Maintain complete project documentation and good working relationships with internal groups.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to developing engineers.
