About the position

The Cyber Effects department (N165) is seeking an experienced leader to assume the Chief Engineer (CE) role, responsible for developing the technical department strategy, setting the technical direction, and growing a team of world-class talent. The CE will also build partnerships across MITRE and with external organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical quality efforts, engaging deeply in technical work and analyses.
  • Partner with other divisions to strengthen the technical workforce and ensure quality.
  • Define and drive technical quality initiatives across Cyber mission areas.
  • Shape the content of the department work program and ensure technical strength.
  • Identify critical topics to drive and shape the work program for greater impact.
  • Develop and lead execution of the mission and technical strategy.
  • Cultivate a strong culture and support recruiting and developing a skilled team.
  • Mentor and develop technical staff, maximizing their potential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years with a Master's; or a PhD with 5 years' experience.
  • In-depth knowledge in offensive cyber, cyber capability development, and operational planning.
  • Experience creating and leading technical strategies to increase impact.
  • Proven track record of partnering with organizations to leverage capabilities.
  • Experience in shaping workforce skills and developing technical capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • TS/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Joint Cyber Warfighting and Information Warfare in the Cognitive Domain.
  • Experience with Offensive/Defensive Cyber Operations and Agile Software Development.
  • Strong understanding of cyber programs in Service Cyber Components and USCYBERCOM.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across diverse sponsors.
