About The Position

The Chief Custodian participates, plans, and supervises the general cleaning of the assigned facility to ensure a safe and sanitary learning environment for students and staff. This role includes operating boilers and maintaining a variety of mechanical equipment. Additional work days and hours may be required based on emergencies, inclement weather conditions, overtime needs, and summer hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
  • Three (3) years minor building maintenance repair experience required.
  • Three (3) years AACPS Custodian I experience required.
  • One (1) year heating and cooling equipment experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years professional cleaning experience preferred.
  • One (1) year supervisory and/or lead experience preferred.
  • Six (6) months Anne Arundel County Public Schools Lead Custodian experience preferred.
  • Six (6) months Anne Arundel County Public Schools Lead and/or Chief Custodian acting assignments preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of 4th Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers required.
  • Successful completion of Introduction to Operations Equipment & Plant Procedures Course and Certificate issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.
  • Successful completion of Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.

Responsibilities

  • Makes minor plumbing, electrical, general maintenance, and custodial equipment repairs.
  • Performs cleaning and inspects facilities and grounds to ensure maintenance of safety, sanitary, and security standards on a daily basis.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and operates heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Opens, closes, and locks buildings and gates, or assigns tasks to responsible subordinates.
  • Assists the principal or designee in preparing work requests.
  • Maintains records of area inspections, inventory, training, and equipment maintenance as required.
  • Instructs employees in the proper use of building services, supplies, equipment, and cleaning procedures.
  • Oversees and participates in the snow removal program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
