About the position
Sony Imageworks Vancouver is seeking Character FX TDs who can create set-ups, models, and animations for character external features such as hair, fur, and cloth to meet art direction. The ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of relevant software including Maya, Linux, UNIX, and scripting ability in relevant languages including MEL, Perl, and Python. They should also be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine the various design solutions. A demo reel that illustrates relevant artistic and technical experience is required. Sony Pictures Entertainment is an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities
- Creates set-ups, models and animates assigned character external features such as hair, fur and cloth to meet art direction.
- Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets.
- Able to create character simulations for multiple types of character features and may have in-depth skills in one area (e.g., hair or cloth).
- Participates in writing utility scripts and software code that streamlines the simulation development process.
- Accountable for meeting schedules and show deadlines, participates in dailies, rounds and team reviews of work in progress.
- Interact with production, supervisors and team/ peers in order to problem solve and share information related to show/ assigned tasks.
- Must be able to decipher as well as follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings/ notes and feedback.
- Successful candidates should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine the various design solutions.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of relevant software including Maya, Linux, UNIX
- Scripting ability in relevant languages including MEL, Perl and Python highly desirable
- 2 year diploma or 1 year certificate highly desirable, but minimal requirement of 2-3 years of relevant experience may be accepted
- Must be able to provide a demo reel that illustrates relevant artistic and technical experience for this specific role
