About The Position

The Center Director is responsible for administering and supervising center operations to achieve the quality standards set by the Head Start Performance Standards, NC Child Day Care Licensing Laws, and NAEYC Accreditation Criteria. This role involves ensuring the implementation of developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant curricula, maintaining a safe and clean physical environment, and providing orientation and information to parents and staff regarding program operations. The Center Director also has management responsibilities for recruitment and enrollment of children and families, as well as supervising and evaluating all personnel assigned to the center.

Requirements

  • A BS/BA degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 semester hours in preschool education.
  • NC Early Childhood Administration III required.
  • At least two years of experience in an early childhood education program, with supervisory experience in Head Start preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise others and organize procedures essential to the operation of a Child Development Center.
  • Successful completion of Infant/Child or Community CPR Course and a Red Cross First Aid Course within the first 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum in all classrooms.
  • Integrate education curriculum with other component services related to classroom activities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean physical environment that meets state licensing standards.
  • Provide orientation to parents and staff regarding program operations.
  • Assign and schedule children to classrooms in conjunction with Family Advocates.
  • Manage recruitment and enrollment of children and families.
  • Supervise and evaluate all personnel, including conducting annual performance appraisals.
  • Plan and conduct regular meetings of center staff.
  • Ensure open communication between staff and families.
  • Develop staff training plans and ensure participation in training and workshops.
  • Ensure completion of required paperwork before enrolling children.
  • Supervise record keeping for the center as required by governmental and agency policy.
  • Maintain good working relationships with landlords and coordinate with staff to keep enrollment at capacity.
  • Monitor attendance of children and maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Inspect building and grounds for cleanliness and needed repairs.
  • Report significant events and problems to the Education Director.
  • Conduct monthly fire drills and required tornado drills.
  • Participate in program staff meetings and maintain center operations based on child development theories.
