About The Position

The University of Hawai'i is seeking applicants for the position of Casual Hire Resident Manager (Community Living Coordinator) within University Housing. This role is designed for individuals looking for short-term or part-time work, with appointments lasting up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents and Civil Service employees. The position is expected to begin in March 2025 or soon thereafter.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, education, human resource management, business administration, and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience in managing student residence halls or comparable groups.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in residence hall operations.
  • Understanding of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and systems associated with housing and residence halls.
  • Ability to recognize problems, identify causes, and resolve issues in housing and residence hall operations.
  • Ability to work independently, organize, set priorities, and make decisions under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a master's degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, or related fields.
  • Full-time or graduate residence life experience.
  • Knowledge of the University of Hawaii and/or University of Hawaii System programs, policies, and goals.
  • Knowledge of native Hawaiian customs and culture.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows or Apple applications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the development, coordination, promotion, and implementation of various community programs, resources, and services to resident students.
  • Promote and implement a strong residential community among staff and residents.
  • Provide an environment that complements the resident's individual educational goals and offers growth and development opportunities for resident students.
  • Create assessments to evaluate educational programming offered to students in residence communities.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to student staff assigned within the residential communities.
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement units across the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the daily operation of the residence hall, including pre and post check-ins/check-outs.
  • Maintain regular office hours, balancing day responsibilities with evening commitments.
  • Share on-call duty by rotating evenings, weekends, and holidays with other live-in Residence staff.
  • Live in the residence halls as a condition of employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
