The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled trades work in the maintenance or construction and renovation of County-owned buildings and facilities. Work at this level may involve carpentry, painting, plumbing, general mechanical repair work, drywall installation and finishing, acoustical ceiling repair and installation work depending on area of assignment. May supervise contractors in performing maintenance or repair duties. May require the ability to communicate, report and complete work orders using technology such as a Smartphone or tablet and associated applications. Responsible for purchasing construction and maintenance related items; accountable for delivery of related financial paperwork to administrative staff. Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction and renovation of county buildings and facilities: reads blueprints or other design drawings to determine work to be performed; performs rough and finish carpentry, painting, and performs minor masonry and concrete repair work such as setting forms, mixing and pouring concrete, and laying modular block walls. Assists in ensuring that operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Performs building construction renovations and repair tasks: removes or installs flooring and ceiling tiles; removes or installs fixtures and appliances; paints interior and exterior surfaces; removes or installs carpet, plaster applications, millwork fabrication and installation/replacement of drywall. Performs other related duties as assigned.
