About The Position

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in Massachusetts public employee retirement benefits or a comparable field.
  • Associate degree or higher in business, math, finance, actuarial science, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong math skills and ability to manage a high volume caseload against deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
  • Familiarity with electronic document management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately review and process benefit applications for all forms of retirement benefits and disbursements.
  • Counsel and provide educational support to MSERS members regarding available benefits and related transactions.
  • Analyze, research, and input data necessary to calculate members' creditable service and salaries.
  • Respond promptly to internal and external member requests in a professional manner.
  • Stay current with changes to plan rules and explain provisions to members.
  • Approve and adjust benefit calculations related to various factors such as worker's compensation and survivor benefits.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly Board meeting agendas.
  • Develop proficiency with OnBase ECM (document scanning) System.
  • Attend retirement seminars and health fairs to explain retirement rights and benefits.
  • Adhere to Treasury and Board human resource and operational policies.
