About The Position

The Benefits Disability Calculation Analyst at the Massachusetts State Treasurer and Receiver General's Office plays a crucial role in administering the defined benefit retirement plan for eligible employees. This position involves counseling members of the State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS) on available benefits, processing retirement applications, and performing calculations related to benefits and disbursements. Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in Massachusetts public employee retirement benefits or a comparable field.
• Associate degree or higher in business, math, finance, actuarial science, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience.
• Strong math skills and ability to manage a high volume caseload against deadlines.
• Excellent communication, inter-personal, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
• Familiarity with electronic document management systems.

Nice To Haves

• Experience conducting retirement seminars for groups of state employees.
• Knowledge of retirement industry and related benefits.

Responsibilities

• Accurately review and process benefit applications for all forms of retirement benefits and disbursements.
• Counsel and provide educational support to MSERS members regarding available benefits and related transactions.
• Analyze, research, and input data necessary to calculate members' creditable service and salaries.
• Respond promptly to internal and external member requests in a professional manner.
• Stay current with changes to plan rules and explain provisions to members.
• Approve and adjust benefit calculations related to various factors such as worker's compensation and survivor benefits.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly Board meeting agendas.
• Develop proficiency with OnBase ECM (document scanning) System.
• Attend retirement seminars and health fairs to explain retirement rights and benefits.
• Adhere to Treasury and Board human resource and operational policies.
