About the position
The Automation Sales Engineer (ASE) is responsible for executing sales and marketing plans, providing technical sales support, and meeting sales growth objectives for the automation portfolio in their assigned territory. They should have advanced technical knowledge of automation technologies and be proficient in sales skills, particularly in the area of managed networking products. The ASE will work closely with the regional sales manager and other stakeholders to develop sales growth plans, prospect new business opportunities, and provide subject matter expertise on managed network infrastructure. This role requires strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to travel and lift heavy objects. Responsibilities
- Work with regional sales manager and stakeholders to develop sales growth plans for Automation products within assigned territory
- Execute sales plans through support of assigned accounts
- Prospect and develop new automation product, system, and solution business opportunities within territory
- Take technical direction from Automation Marketing leadership team
- Provide subject matter expertise on managed network infrastructure including layer 3 switching and cybersecurity for sales resources in region
- Meet/exceed sales growth objectives as established by Industrial Regional Sales Manager
- Implement R3/BASE selling skills to build strong customer relationships
- Conduct a minimum of 12 to 16 sales calls/seminars per week, with at least 50% to targeted, assigned accounts
- Utilize Pivotal CRM as primary customer planning, reporting, measurement, and opportunity tracking tool
- Drive the use of all sales tools provided to support local markets
- Actively participate in industry related associations, distributor, and customer events
- Possess advanced technical knowledge of Automation technologies including control, communications, networking, and safety
- Experience with sales or support in an IT environment preferred
- Hold a four-year degree, preferably in engineering
- Have at least 3 years of outside sales experience
- Possess outstanding communication skills – written, verbal, and listening
- Be self-motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly
- Have strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Preferably have electrical/electronic industry sales experience
- Preferably have experience working with distributors
- Travel via airplane
- Have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate an automobile for up to six hours at a time
- Lift a minimum of 50 lbs (sample, demos, literature)
- Travel overnight 35%+ or as dictated by assigned territory
Requirements
- Advanced technical knowledge of Automation technologies including control, communications, networking, and safety.
- Experience with sales or support in an IT environment preferred.
- Four year degree required. Engineering degree preferred.
- 3+ years outside sales experience required.
- Outstanding communication skills – written, verbal and listening.
