The Automation Engineer will design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and processes. This role involves identifying opportunities for automation within software processes, developing and implementing software that controls and monitors mechanical systems, and troubleshooting equipment and process issues related to automation.

  • Lead simultaneous projects.
  • Own responsibility for technical project leadership as directed.
  • Gain new knowledge of automation technology and solutions.
  • Use engineering knowledge to assess current processes and architect automation solutions.
  • Spearhead technology research to deliver state-of-the-art processes and design concepts.
  • Work across multiple facilities with separate stakeholder teams and processes.
  • Work with project managers to set and manage goals, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Communicate project status to management.
  • Build payback models and assist in writing capital requests.
  • Attend trade shows and vendor visits to become a rounded industry expert on current state of the art technologies and implementation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with automation systems.
  • Train manufacturing staff and maintenance staff on new automation systems.
  • BS in Mechanical, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with an emphasis in Automation.
  • Prior work experience in operations project management, automation project management, or similar areas - including intern or co-op assignments - desirable.
  • Comfortable in ambiguous situations where requirements may be unclear.
  • Comfortable in factory environments.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of LEAN principles.
  • 20 - 30% travel, domestic and international.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with automation projects involving metal machining.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
