This role will work closely with a variety of different groups and departments at the Waterloo plant, but will report directly to the Maintenance Manager with functional reporting to the Plant General Manager. The Automation Engineer's responsibility is to increase the overall productivity of the plant by analyzing facility performance utilizing key metrics: Corrugator MSF/hour, Converting MSF/hour, maintenance budget, and electrical & mechanical downtime. The Automation Engineer will also have influence in assisting on plant capital allocation decisions and defining implementation strategies.

  • Lead & support production and maintenance team members with troubleshooting process issues
  • Lead & support production and maintenance team members with troubleshooting and repairing of controls & instrumentation
  • Work toward process optimization through development of new control strategies
  • Support safety as a core value
  • Support the plant efforts to achieve consistent production results
  • Develop solutions to chronic repetitive failures by analyzing data
  • Perform root cause failure analysis on major reliability incidents
  • Support & provide expertise and capital projects
  • Identify capital solutions to reliability opportunities
  • Provide support for capital project development & implementation
  • Coordinate and review vendor equipment, installation and other discipline drawings for operability and maintainability input
  • Assist in checkout and start-up activities, conduct post completion audits of all capital projects in your region
  • Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
  • Identify bottlenecks within plants and aid in development of plans to increase machine speed
  • AAS or BS/BA in Engineering preferred; Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial
  • 3+ Years of manufacturing experience
  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment in operations and/or maintenance
  • Corrugated packaging manufacturing experience preferred
