About the position
This role is a unique opportunity to develop product skills and technical knowledge at a significant scale. The associate product manager will partner with platform engineering teams to build world-class products for internal users, focusing on infrastructure, data services, reliability, and developer productivity. The role requires clear communication, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to balance the needs of internal customers with those of the platform engineering teams. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of how developers work and be familiar with SRE principles.
Responsibilities
- Partner with platform engineering teams to build world-class products for internal users
- Work with a broad range of technologies to find and deliver improvements with real mission impact
- Identify and unlock opportunities across infrastructure, data services, reliability, and developer productivity
- Collaborate with different functions across the organization to gather, understand, and translate user needs into reliable, scalable, performant, and efficient platform services
- Analyze and connect data to communicate critical insights
- Use analytical and customer insights to learn about problems and scope and measure the impact of potential changes
- Clearly articulate problems, define solutions with engineers, and follow through to completion without supervision
- Prioritize work and create a roadmap, considering trade-offs
- Coordinate operational challenges and balance the needs of internal customers with platform engineering teams
- Communicate clearly and effectively, build trust with the team, and gain buy-in for plans from the wider organization
- Understand how developers work and the challenges associated with DevOps and a cloud-native environment
- Familiarity with SRE principles
- Conduct end-to-end product development, including quantitative and qualitative research, as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Product Specialist, Project Manager, Scrum-master, or similar
- Have previous experience in software engineering or a similar role
- Work on evolving problems, from internal developer experience to technical infrastructure development
- Act autonomously and have the opportunity to make an impact
Requirements
- Use analytical and customer insights to learn about problems and understand how to scope and measure the impact of potential changes.
- Able to clearly articulate a problem, work with engineers to define a solution and follow it through to completion without supervision.
- Expose and assess the various trade-offs when prioritizing work and creating a roadmap.
- Identify and coordinate operational challenges, balance the needs of internal customers with the needs of platform engineering teams.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, build trust with your team and get buy-in for your plans from the wider organization.
- Have a good understanding of how developers work and the diverse challenges associated with DevOps and a cloud-native environment.
- Familiar with SRE principles.
- Experience in end-to-end product development as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Product Specialist, Project Manager, Scrum-master or similar.
- Being comfortable with running your own quantitative and qualitative research.
- Previous experience in a software engineering or similar role.
