About The Position

The Baylor College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics - Critical Care is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time role as an Assistant Professor. The Division of Critical Care Medicine is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants), post-doctoral fellows, and research support personnel committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Location: Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, Texas One of the largest free standing academic children's hospitals in the country Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center located just south of Downtown Houston More than 650 total beds with over 3.5 million patient encounters annually 92 bed Pediatric ICU with dedicated subspeciality cohorts Surgical ICU Neuro ICU Pulmonary ICU Hematology/Oncology ICU Transitional ICU for patients with chronic complex medical conditions and advanced medical equipment needs Separate Heart Center with 48 bed cardiac ICU and adult congenital heart disease unit Level 1 trauma center Work Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays

Requirements

  • Residency in Pediatrics
  • Fellowship in Pediatric Intensive Care
  • Fellowship in Pediatric Intensive Care (3 years)
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Care for seriously ill infants and children who need a high-level of monitoring and treatment. This will include those with respiratory failure due to pneumonia or bronchiolitis, septic shock, neurological emergencies such as seizures, severe trauma, and post-operative patients including neurosurgery and organ transplantation.
  • Will frequently supervise and perform procedures, including intubation and central lines, as well as provide conscious sedation for patients within the ICU.
  • Care is provided in collaboration with all pediatric subspecialties in addition to pediatric nursing, respiratory therapy, and ancillary services.
  • Participate in administrative and academic duties that are pertinent to the section of critical care medicine. This may include research endeavors; supervision and education of residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers (NP or PA); leading educational efforts for nurses; or collaborative quality projects with other areas of the hospital.
  • Participate as a member of the section of critical care in activities such as committee representation, teaching and education, and patient care discussions.
