About the position

The School of Education is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teaching, Learning and Technology, with a specialization in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Hofstra University. The TLT Department welcomes applications in the field of Early Childhood and Elementary Education Teacher Preparation, with a focus on diversity, equity, and justice, and with strong preference for candidates who have expertise in Early Childhood Education. The faculty of the Hofstra University School of Education are dedicated to the preparation of reflective and knowledgeable professionals who use scholarship to inform their practice. Collectively, we strive toward a more just, open, and democratic society as we collaborate with and learn from children, adolescents, and adults in diverse social and cultural settings. Our two departments (Teaching, Learning, and Technology Programs; and Specialized Programs in Education) offer over 80 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and advanced-certificate programs, including numerous New York State-approved pathways to certification of school professionals. The person in this position would be joining the School at an exciting time of renewal and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Elementary Education and in other professional preparation and degree programs across the School of Education.
  • Engaging in or leading research, scholarship, and other scholarly and professional endeavors that advance the mission and values of the School of Education.
  • Working collaboratively to administer, assess, and strengthen various degree and credential programs and partnerships locally and beyond.
  • Supporting efforts to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D. or equivalent) in Education or closely related field is required.
  • Demonstrated record of academic scholarship, research, and other scholarly activities in relevant fields.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with methods of research and assessment in education.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching at the K-12 and/or postsecondary level.
  • Demonstrated experience of effective leadership at the K-12 level.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing diversity, equity, democracy, and justice in education.
