About The Position

The Assistant Controller is primarily responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for Shea Properties residential apartment portfolio. The annual salary range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000, and the Assistant Controller is also eligible to participate in the discretionary annual bonus plan. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting experience.
  • Must possess in-depth understanding of financial statements and GAAP accounting.

Nice To Haves

  • Real Estate experience preferred.
  • Public Accounting experience is desirable, CPA a plus.
  • Experience with REIT compliance, Low Income Housing or New Market Tax Credits a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for Shea Properties residential apartment portfolio.
  • Supervise and mentor the residential apartment accounting team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements for both internal operations and external GAAP reporting.
  • Manage Affordable Housing portfolio including lender, JV partner and government reporting requirements.
  • Perform detailed review of key financial statement activity.
  • Support VP Accounting on consolidated and joint venture audit requests.
  • Review monthly, quarterly and annual lender and joint venture reporting packages.
  • Work with operations and development teams to support ad hoc reporting and analysis needs.
  • Prepare and maintain property tax tracking schedules and manage payment process.
  • Communicate month-end tasks and reporting with operations team.
  • Enforce existing accounting policies and procedures as well as roll out any new policies as needed.
  • Work with VP Accounting on IT system rollouts and enhancements.
  • Seek continuous improvement of accounting processes, systems and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate member capital statements and tax packages.
