General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an AN/BYG-1 PCS Deputy Program Manager of Engineering. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. As the DPME on the PCS program, you'll partner with the Program Manager to plan, authorize, and monitor engineering work by managing a team of top talent. You'll work with Navy partners to ensure the success of the United States and Australian Navy submarine fleet while keeping your team motivated and focused on project goals.   • Plans and monitors the authorized engineering work
  • Assists in staffing the project team with the appropriate engineering personnel and maintains staffing forecast in appropriate tool
  • Fosters cross-functional collaboration and builds project consensus
  • May oversee performance, cost, scope and schedule for all engineering efforts (including efforts that are subcontracted)
  • Ensures that total system requirements are validated
  • Ensures that total system is integrated, tested and verified
  • Ensures all project deliverables (including documentation) are developed with high quality and delivered on time
  • Develops and maintains engineering plans as required by the project
  • Helps manage the engineering related risks and opportunities of the project
  • Ensures there is a project change management process for the project
  • Ensures that all engineering processes to be used adhere to established engineering practices
  • Manages engineering resources (e.g. staff assignments, capital equipment, etc.), organizational interfaces, and engineering scope
  • Identifies, develops, analyzes, and reports engineering project measures
  • Participates in monthly engineering status reviews and provides material for the monthly program reviews
  • Implements effective corrective actions as required
  • Manages the resolution of technical issues, communicates the resolution to all affected parties, and ensures that the resolution is carried out in all of the affected artifacts
  • Conducts lessons learned after each major phase of the project
  • Motivates the engineering team and provides a clear understanding of project goals
  • Recommends rewards for the team members that drive the success of the project
  • May provide performance feedback and management for the project team
  • Leads small proposals and ECPs with identification of cross business unit strengths and technical shortcomings
  • Assists in ROM development
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.
